Two years since the release of his 2012 promotional album, “Date with Destiny,” Miami based lyricist D-Mac will release his most highly anticipated project yet, “Dear Destiny,” available for free download at ImDMAC.com and DatPiff.com on March 3, 2014.
The promotional album is a creative collaboration between D-Mac and producer, Feb9, rendering it a completely cohesive 11 track project featuring all 90’s R&B samples as the hidden gems within the production. These samples are the key to the interactive nature of the release; Miami based 8and9 Clothing (8and9.com) has teamed up with D-Mac to offer a $200 shopping experience from the clothing line to the first fan who can guess all 11 samples used to create “Dear Destiny.” Details of this contest will be available on the day of the release on D-Mac’s website.
Two tracks from the album were available for live streaming a few weeks before release: “Talk My Shit” and “Mind State.” These advanced releases may have been key for fans who wanted a head start on the contest.
As implied in the album title, “Dear Destiny” is a continuation of the stories told in ‘Date with Destiny.’ “The track called ‘Tunnel Vision’ on my last release talks about my process in making the decision to pursue music. The intro to my forthcoming project, entitled ‘Still I Rise,” tells the story of everything I’ve been through since then and my refusal to let adversity stop me.”
“The track, ‘My Will,’ off ‘Date with Destiny,’ went viral. It evoked the most response, so naturally, I chose to get together with the producer of the record, Feb9, and cook up a whole project to make the most cohesive album possible,” says D-Mac. The samples include some of the most classic, recognized songs from iconic r&b artists. “He [Feb9] and I both have a passion for that era of music.
The creative concept behind “Dear Destiny” came from a mutual love of the 90’s era from both artist and producer. “We’re in a time where the songs I grew up on are considered “old school.” The samples will remind people of that time, creating a nostalgic feel that will connect with listeners and be the perfect back drop for the stories I tell.”
