Reverse Pill: The DOs and DON’Ts of Social Media Marketing

social-media-for-business

With active users nearing 700 million on Facebook, exceeding 300 million on Google+, and hitting 200 million on Twitterat the start of 2013, there’s no denying that social media use is only trending in one direction.

With such a huge percentage of daily time consumption being accounted for on social networking sites, it would be ignorant for businesses not to use these platforms to catch up with their target audiences in these spaces.  Social media marketing provides a direct link to followers of a brand and prospective customers, but is not inherently a business-transaction medium. Social networking sites still need to be used in the way their name implies: for interacting with others in order to build relationships and form communities.

Dos:

• Do create a presence by posting regular updates on what’s happening in your biz. Don’t disappear for huge stretches of time – your followers might just forget about you completely.

• Do be a little racy, sometimes. Work consciously to build your brand’s personality in line with your company values, and then let it loose on the Internet.

• Do share a variety of content. Use the various features of social media sites: post pictures and videos, share interesting links, and find out what others have to say about them.

• Do be knowledgeable and up-to-date about the political climate surrounding your industry. Be a thought-leader in changes taking place in your field.

• Do be friendly and open. Make friends with friends-of-friends. Encourage others to interact with you by interacting with them first.

Don’ts:

• Don’t be a show-off. Like proud parents over-saturating the cute factor with an overwhelming number of tot-posts, businesses need to mind how much they self-promote their own babies.

• Don’t turn off potentials by making extreme statements about where you stand personally on a topic – unless that’s your business model.

• Don’t ignore people who take the time to interact with you. Work with whatever feedback you can get, respond to it, and build relationships based off mutual understanding.

• Don’t assume everyone is on your level. Be sensitive to the varying perspectives of visitors to your page.  Explain your reasoning, cite your sources, and tailor your rhetoric to the individuals you interact with.

• Don’t be repetitive. Give continuity to your brand’s voice by keeping threads of content alive, but don’t annoy your audience with the same tune over and over and over again.

Just like everyone else, businesses need to make sure they stay abreast of their social media etiquette. Use social networking sites the way they were made to be used and your business will butterfly. Break the rules too often and you’ll be shunned to the corner of the Internet cafeteria to chew on your ideas alone.

ReverseNation Interviews Trel Mack

trelmacknew1

Ready to take the game by storm after a brief hiatus, music artist Trel Mack is back. For those that might remember Trel Mack, was an artist that built a solid following back in 07-08 being featured all over major outlets in the industry. With the release of fan favorite projects such as “The Mack of The Year” and “The New Dynasty”, Trel Mack’s support in the industry was highly cosigned by industry professionals and music fans.

Trel’s past music/projects was featured in top publications such as HIPHOPDX, YORAPS, ALLHIPHOP, DJBooth, & and even played on Philadelphia’s commercial radio station Power 99. Falling back from music, after some personal life situations, Trel Mack knows his talent is destined to be heard and to be the next music superstar. “I’m so hungry now to get back into the game after this break, my music has evolved on such a higher level”.

Trel Mack has co-founded his own label SKE records as well with popular journalist/publicist Quinton Hatfield, Q The Question. The two formed their partnership back in 2006 and with the great feedback gained from the past music, things this time around are ready to move. “Me and Q, have some big things coming and we have a very huge movement in store. Brand new videos, chart-topping music and a movement with SKE records, what we going to bring will be unstoppable.”

As far as the music, Trel Mack has been working on a new project which excites many fans and industry pros who are fired up to see him back. Great feedback has been shown from the music business with records such as “Dreams of a Winner” ft. Shaun Chrisjohn, also “I’m Still Here” ft. R&B singer Kenji Morris. “Those records show my real life story which in order to be a top stellar artist your music has to connect to the fans. Trel continues that is the huge difference with the new music coming compared to the past ones.”

With a new project coming in store, untitled as of now, Trel Mack and SKE RECORDS are next to make a run in the music business, with hit records as Trel Mack says “Inspired by Greatness”

Reverse: First off I want to congratulate you on your success and progress with “Inspired By Greatness” EP. How has your buzz been since the release of it last September?

Trel: Man it has been phenomenal, with two great videos “Dreams of a Winner” and also “No Holding Back” it’s been crazy that my music is getting exposed at a high level. From the constant love on The Source and Allhiphop.com, I’m so excited. Taking a break from music and to come back with such a great response, I thank all my fans for the love. It has me even hungrier and the work load indeed has been tuned up. Doing interviews with magazines and radio every other day, constantly in studio, daily business meetings, but at least it shows the music made an impact for all this to happen.

Reverse:What was your favorite song from it?

Trel: My favorite songs personally are “Dreams of a Winner” ft. Shaun Chrisjohn and “Still Here” ft. Kenji Morris. Those are my favorite two for sure. I love the whole EP as this project has received the most positive feedback ever in my career.

Reverse: For those who have not heard your single “No Holding Back”, summarize up your lyrics and the meaning behind the words.

Trel: The meaning behind my record “No Holding Back” is basically not letting anything hold me back in life, the whole point is no matter what happens, you got to make something happen and go hard. Which is why I said “Finally made a way for me and I dare you to try to take it from me” hahah. The song has been getting incredible feedback from the fans and even some big name people in the industry. They loved the video as well, shot and edited by Philly Spielberg, it is definitely a fan favorite from the “Inspired By Greatness” EP.

Reverse: You have been featured internationally like in Columbia, Venezuela, Spain ,Italy, and many more foreign countries, what has that done as a whole for your career?

Trel: It’s been phenomenal that my music has been recognized all over the world. A lot of that is from my partner and best friend Q The Question who I started SKE Records. Q is fluent in Spanish and with that being said he was able to have many ties in many Spanish speaking countries.  Puerto Rico, Spain, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela Q has ties in them all.  Our DJ, DJ YRS Jerzy he handles a lot of international promo for us as well as he is the lead DJ for SKE Records promotional department. He has ties in France, Nigeria, Ghana, all over the world. So with Q The Question & DJ YRS Jerzy it gets insane. That’s the beauty of the network you can reach people all over the world. It feels so good to wake up and find out my song is playing on the radio in Italy or Venezuela.

Reverse: How well orientated are you with your fans?

Trel: Great, when they tweet me it makes me happy that my music is appreciated. When I have to time I thank them the ones who message me that they love my music and more. I keep up with my fans on twitter, instagram and facebook.com/trelmack. Without the fans we are nothing so it’s only right to show appreciation.

Reverse: Can you give us a leak on what projects are to come from you in the future?

Trel: Well right now, I’m working on more music and I’m working on my next project “The Mack of the Year” 2. We have gained some interest from some major labels so now it is really time to get to work. But yeah more videos is well, the next video will definitely be the intro from the “Inspired By Greatness” EP.

Reverse: What words of encouragement can you give to artist wanting to reach the levels you have?

Trel: Stay positive and WORK ON YOUR CRAFT! Also realize this is not going to happen overnight and it is a grind. This game is no joke and you have to remain consistent and be patient! Always do research as well.

.

Reverse: Do you have any final shoutouts?

Trel: Sure, definitely shout out the whole SKE team, my boy Q The Question, my manager Rob, also Petter Jones his mixtape “Super Saiyan” coming soon and also DJ YRS Jerzy working on more mixtapes to keep us hot, all that.

ReverseNation Interviews Wildstyle DaProducer

LARGESUITPIC
Wildstyle DaProducer is a music producer/sound engineer and Warren Central graduate who grew up on the Far Eastside of Indianapolis. He has been making beats and instrumentals for over 10 years and producing whole songs for the 2 years. In the past he hasn’t worked with many Indianapolis artists but recently has decided to get more hands own in the local music scene by working directly with artists to produce whole records instead of just delivering beats. In 2011 several artists opened for Gucci Mane at Cloud 9 (now Suite 38) with music he produced. In 2012 he was selected to be apart of the inaugural Standard Producers Showcase Indianapolis out of 40 – 50 submissions from all over the Midwest. He currently runs a small production and recording studio in his spare time.

Reverse: Do you work exclusively for any artist and if so who?

Wild: I definitely don’t and wouldn’t work exclusively for ANYONE including family, unless there was a LOT of money involved. As a producer we are dependent on so many other people to help carry our music to the masses. We need good artists, promotion, and record labels to really get our music heard. I just don’t feel working exclusively with anyone gives me the best chance of accomplishing my goals. With that said, I do have 1 artist that I’ve taken on for my own projects, and that’s @IndianaFredd. I think he’s very talented and he does get stuff done unlike many of the others I attempted to work with.

Reverse: When was the first time you made a beat and what was our reaction to it?

Wild: I think the first time I made a beat was in late 2001. I was fed up with the mess I was hearing on the radio. lol And I had a friend that was rapper and producer, who played his beats that he had made using MTV Music Generator for Playstation. I was shocked that they pretty much sounded like “real” music to me. So I bought it and made my first beat, which literally took months for me to complete. lol. I didn’t know what I was doing at all. Most of them REALLY sucked the first 3 -6 months too!

Reverse: As a skilled producer, what advice can you give to starting out producers like myself lol and others?

Wild: Well thank you for the compliment. All I can say is read as much as you can about production and be patient! There’s so much information available on the web that you can literally learn tips and tricks that even a Music Production School won’t have time to teach you. Also patience is a must. Making good music CONSISTENTLY takes patience and attention to detail. It takes time to learn all the tips & tricks, and it takes time to be creative.

Reverse: In what genre would you say you specialize in?

Wild: I would definitely say southern hiphop these days. I used to do a lot more R&B and traditional oldschool hiphop beats, but nobody seems to be interested in them here in Indianapolis. So most of my beats lean towards southern hiphop or trap music. I wish I could do more genres but I’m not talented to enough to do GOOD instrumentals in a whole bunch of different genres. And I’m not to proud to admit it either.

Reverse: Has there ever been a time you were unhappy with a piece of work you had done?

Wild: Many times. I’m unhappy about stuff I do on a daily basis it seems. A lot of times I’ll hear a beat I worked on months later and wonder what I was thinking when I added certain elements or mixed it a certain way. If I still feel the beat has potential, I’ll quietly “Update” the track on my SoundCloud or either delete it.

Reverse: What effective universal skills do you learn from producing?

Wild: I think you learn attention to detail from producing. That’s something that I never realized I was missing in a lot of areas. But when your a producer you end up noticing the smallest things about music, life, anything. That attention to detail often helps you out in other jobs, relationships, and unrelated projects. It allows you to see challenges and obstacles as parts and pieces that can be changed or influenced, rather than as unmovable mountains.
